Why MyTourbook ?
- in 2004 I bought a HAC4 device but was not very happy with the bundled software and saw room for improvements
- in 2005 I had time to learn Java, Eclipse, SQL and EJB3, therefor MyTourbook is my learning project for these skills
My Cycling Accident
On the 25th October 2005 I had a very serious cycling accident, I lay in coma for 3 weeks and then have woken up fortunately again. Afterwards I was 3 months in rehab.
The first 3 months after the accident I was not at all interested in the computer, because I had to deal with other problems. After the daily treatments, sometimes it was boring, so I brought my laptop there and was trying to understand what I had done in this program before my accident. After the severe brain injury I had, this project has helped me to build up my mental abilities again.
I cannot remember the accident but there are two main reasons, why I had survived:
- I had worn a bicycle helmet that has trapped most of the force on the impact, I had almost no other injuries
- I've survived the deep coma in which I lay (according to the testimony of the physicians) because I had a good physical condition
I had a blessing in disguise because at the time when I was in rehabilitation, Swiss television has made a documentary about brain injuries.
Therefore, a short documentary is available about my rehab. In this film, the cases for five different people are described who have had brain injuries.
The DOK movie (swiss german language) is described on the original Webpage but the video cannot be viewed any more on this site, in May 10, 2017 I got the permission to publish this Video.
